Hambo Posted 7 April , 2015 Share Posted 7 April , 2015 I was reading the 8th Devon war diary last night and it describes in some detail what happened to most of the officers in the attack on Breslau Trench. One is described as having been killed by "Accessory No. 1". I assume this is a polite/gentile word for a bayonet. Another officer was described later as having been wounded by the same "accessory". Can anyone confirm that "Accessory No 1" is a bayonet?? Many thanks John
Andrew Upton Posted 7 April , 2015 Share Posted 7 April , 2015 Can anyone confirm that "Accessory No 1" is a bayonet?? It's chlorine gas, released by cylinder: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=162736
Coldstreamer Posted 7 April , 2015 Share Posted 7 April , 2015 so given the secrecy part, was this our gas or axis ?
Hambo Posted 8 April , 2015 Author Share Posted 8 April , 2015 Thanks Andrew, that makes a lot of sense, hence the sort of coded reference as I would guess it was British gas. Really appreciate the reply Thanks John
