dobbin Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 https://www.dropbox.com/s/nm8z6gqkqud630a/Uncle%20Wiiliam%20Uniform-1.jpg?dl= Can anyone identify this uniform please. The picture is said to be about 1908 so I am assuming that William Walker 18 at the time had just joined up and was proudly posing with his family in this picture. As you can guess there are very many William Walkers and there are I imagine records of his enlistment if I could work out who he is. Little is known about William in the family after that date so I wonder if he was killed or injured in the war it would be good to discover his history and whereabouts and we would like to find his burial place or at least a mention. Here is a copy of the 1891 Census and its him on the record 8 months old as the address is the correct one where the Walkers were living. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kcz40931za5hp5b/William%20Walker%201891%20Census.png?ydl=0 Colin. gordon92 Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 His uniform is that of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. If the 1908 date is correct, then he would have been a soldier of the 1st Battalion who were at Tidworth 1907-1910.
IPT Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 On the 1911 census, there's a William Walker, born Barony, Lanarkshire, aged 20, with the 1st Cameron Highlanders at Qudenarde Barracks, Farnborough.
