Guest Graycastle Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could help me track down this individual? I recently found his medals here in Canada, and as I'm new to trying to research soldiers of the BEF, I would appreciate any pointers, tips, or information. Regards, Graycastle
BFBSM Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 Hi, Are you a member of either Ancestry or FindMyPast? A number of records for the BEF are available there. To view them, you will either need to use the 14 day free membership or subscribe. Records available from a quick search: http://interactive.ancestry.com/5119/41629_626640_11791-00186/5855061?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2f%2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3findiv%3d1%26db%3diwoservicemedalawardrolls%26rank%3d1%26new%3d1%26MSAV%3d1%26msT%3d1%26gss%3dangs-d%26gsfn%3dWilliam%26gsln%3dSinclair%26gskw%3d46513%26gskw_x%3d1%26cpxt%3d1%26uidh%3del4%26cp%3d11%26pcat%3d39%26fh%3d3%26h%3d5855061%26recoff%3d5%2b6%26ml_rpos%3d4&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnRecord http://interactive.ancestry.com/1262/30850_A001421-01412/10784546?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2f%2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3findiv%3d1%26db%3dmedalrolls%26rank%3d1%26new%3d1%26MSAV%3d1%26msT%3d1%26gss%3dangs-d%26gsfn%3dWilliam%26gsln%3dSinclair%26gskw%3d46513%26gskw_x%3d1%26cpxt%3d1%26uidh%3del4%26cp%3d11%26pcat%3d39%26fh%3d1%26h%3d10784546%26recoff%3d9%2b10%26ml_rpos%3d2&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnRecord Mark
Guest Graycastle Posted 6 April , 2015 Share Posted 6 April , 2015 Thanks for your reply...Could you tell me what the links refer to? They come back as an error message And just signed up for ancestry. A further question: I am given to understand that some records were destroyed in 1940. Is there a particular, defined area of records that are missing, or is it more or less random ( Are all of the records of fourth division (just to pick one as an example) missing for example, or just some of the service records for men in the division? Approx 60% of all service records for the period were destroyed - some particular units, such as the machine gun corps, were hit much worse and have a much lower % survival rate.
