janicecasita Posted 4 April , 2015 Share Posted 4 April , 2015 Hello EveryoneI was wondering if anybody could help me with an abbreviation on the Naval Record of my grandfather's elder brother John Condren. I have been going through the details and transferring them onto Lives of the First World War but have come up against a brick wall with him being discharged on 31 March 1918 with the reason being given –: PH7 (I think, as usual the handwriting is difficult to understand).Would anyone know what PH7 means? I will try to attach the document (which I did buy from the national archives).Best wishes,JaniceJohn Condren Naval Service World War 1.pdf
horatio2 Posted 4 April , 2015 Share Posted 4 April , 2015 He was discharged to the RAF. The Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) and the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) merged to form the RAF on 1 April 1918. Here is the link to his RAF record of service:- http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C12265884
janicecasita Posted 4 April , 2015 Author Share Posted 4 April , 2015 Thank you so much Horatio2,I belong to Find My past so I can go and explore the link you have given me. Not only can I add this to his details on Lives of the First World War but my two elderly aunts (his nieces) will be delighted with the details you have uncovered. Many thanks.Best wishes,Janice
ralphjd Posted 5 April , 2015 Share Posted 5 April , 2015 Could it be PA == Paragraph 7 ?
horatio2 Posted 5 April , 2015 Share Posted 5 April , 2015 Not possible. He was discharged to RAF. You cannot be discharged to a paragraph.
janicecasita Posted 5 April , 2015 Author Share Posted 5 April , 2015 Hi,I have just come on to say thank you to all of you. I have now added the RAF details (I found them quite easily on Find My Past) to his page on Lives of the First World War.Strangely, when I went back onto his page I noticed that someone else was remembering him and it turns out to be his grandson. I was not aware that he had any children/grandchildren so that might be something else that my aunts will be interested to learn, if they are not already aware of this.Once again, many thanksJanice
