Hello

Looking for any info about the above. I have seen a few photos of him which definitely are pre-WW 1. Looks like cavalry uniform though I know nowt. Seen his certificate promoting him to W.O. 11 dated 1917. After war became a mounted policecan (with a chest full of medals) . Think he may have been Boer War vet , any assistance welcomed

Craig,

No idea yet. Hoping to find out more next week. Seen a few pictures of him and it looks pre WW1. Photos include him with two African looking men and a moorish looking building, mounted photo, unusual "drape" across tunic. WW 1 uniform shot showing long service Chevrons and CSM crowns on sleeve. They all belong to a friend who is seeing her dad this week and thinks he has the medals so hopefully service number and regt on the way. Found a Bintliff with the 1st Mcrs who fits the bill with early service number but hoping to find out more. Early shots appear to be mounted regt but don't know enough about them, particularly Boer war era. He became a policeman(again mounted) and has a good number of medals visible though not a good enough shot to identify them.

I'll keep you posted

No Anglo-Boer War medals issued to a soldier of this name, nor to "Bintcliffe" as erroneously mentioned on Medal Card and Rolls.

Issues of 1914-15 Star,British War,and Victory Medals eventually made to this soldier as Bintliff, 585 Pte/Sgt/WOII through his war service, also served both 2nd and 1st Battalions Manchesters.First landed in France on 15 Aug 1915.

Thanks for the info. I found the medal roll card and am sure it's him. The "earlier" shots show him in uniform but doesn't look khaki. On one there is an unusual swag across the tunic, another shows him with a sword. Would he, as a member of the militia have served overseas as some of the shots look very north African to me? The collar titles on one shot are certainly not of the Mcrs and his medals are certainly more than the trio. All advice how to find out more would be welcome. The photos are copies and not of the best quality, also I haven't learnt how to use scanner so may be difficult to post
