Sepoy Posted 2 April , 2015 Share Posted 2 April , 2015 I have discovered this superb photograph in a recently acquired album. I have no idea what type of dog it is, in fact when I first looked at the photo I thought it was a bear, but his name is Toto and he served on board HMS Royal Oak. I am aware of Ship's Cats serving at sea, but had not considered dogs being on board. Sepoy

I've no picture to add, however I can pass on a delightful story (though one with a sad ending) from Gallipoli by Capt Eric Bush DSO** RN [iSBN 0 04 940047 9] There are some details of Hayden Forbes here best regards Michael edit to add - Pte Wilkinson was probably this chap - see http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/684470/WILKINSON,%20FREDERICK
seaJane Posted 2 April , 2015 Share Posted 2 April , 2015 A colleague in the Naval Historical Branch has a long-standing research interest in pets aboard ship . As well as dogs and cats there is at least one recorded reindeer. And I have probably posted my 19th-century llama story before now...
