Hi all,

For members have an interest in the Irish involvement in World War I the link above may be of benefit, It is a free online World War I exhibition titled 'it's a long way to Tipperary: An Irish story of the great war'. This project follows the lives of a single family throughout the Great War to illustrate the social, physical and emotional impact of the conflict at an individual level and the irrevocable personal, cultural and societal changes wrought by the war. It is based on the diaries, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia accumulated by the Armstrong family of Moyaliffe Castle, County Tipperary, between 1914 and 1918. Hit the 'follow' button on the bottom right hand of the page(it's is totally free-just needs an e mail from you and on confirmation it will send you the weekly updates) The weekly posts consist of extracts from diaries and correspondence created and collected by the Armstrong family during the war years, along with an extensive archive of photos taken by Capt. Pat Armstrong. Hope you enjoy!

Regards,

Dr Pat McMahon

I went through these papers before they went to Limerick Uni, they are brilliant. One item in there is when 'Pat' Armstrong was put in charge of a firing squad, he did not like it at all. His full shopping list for his kit is also in there so you can see the prices and what he had to get to be in the XRH.
