This unit appears as part of 1 Corps, 2 Division, 6 Brigade in August 1914. Were they involved in any actions before the Marne in September 1914? There are none mentioned in any of the histories I have consulted.

Many thanks in advance

If the war diary is available it may shed some light.

They were at Mons in Aug 1914 .. but had not been attacked when the withdrawal began... falling back until 5th September, doing rearguard service. Sept 1st they were shelled in the Foret de Retz and had 1 officer ('Pat' Chaworth-Musters) and 12 men wounded, and 2 men missing [one turned up later]. On the 6th Sept they turned and started forward ...crossing the Marne Sept 9th... with a fight at Chezy-Brennatz on the 10th with 10 men killed, 4 officers and 60 riflemen wounded, 5 missing... and then heavy fighting across the Aisne. So, like much of I Corps not much action until after the retreat from Mons ended..

E A James' "Record of the Battles and Engagements ..." has 6 Infantry Brigade involved in the Rearguard Actions of Villers Cotterets on 1 September. He does not mention whether the whole brigade was involved. It does not seem to have been involved directly in any other actions before the Marne.
