Julianw Posted 30 March , 2015 Share Posted 30 March , 2015 I am trying to establish where Percy Holder was stationed in the UK and what his role was. I attach an extract from his service record but am unable to interpret where he was posted. Can anyone help? Julian
Glen Posted 30 March , 2015 Share Posted 30 March , 2015 The first entry is 207 TDS (Training Depot Squadron) at Chingford, which according to "The Birth of the RAF" by Ian Philpott, opened in 1915, eventually 207 TDS was housed there and the station remained in the training role for the rest of the war.The airfield closed in 1919 and was later flooded to form part of the Leigh Valley Reservoir. You should also note the margin which shows he was Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, attached to Royal Naval Air Service (which I suppose is appropriate considering the current use of the airfield!)
