Coldstreamer Posted 30 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2015 I think he will be there as the surname seems quite blue-blooded and the family home(s) is rather large

helpjpl Posted 30 March , 2015 Share Posted 30 March , 2015 (edited) I don't subscribe to Debretts, but this may be of interest: Hugh Cholmondeley, born 18 October 1899. (I suspect it should be 1898). Son of Reginald Harry Cholmondeley & Florence Sophia. Guest Posted 30 March , 2015 Share Posted 30 March , 2015 Have you tried "The Aristocracy and the Great War" by Gliddon? The Cholmondleys listed in Cheshire (Cholmondeley Castle) and Norfolk (Houghton Hall) are related to the 4th Marquess (George Cholmondeley 1858-1923) and his sons the Earl of RockSavage (George Horatio) and Lord George Hugo as well as the youngest son of the 3rd Marquess (Charles). All four served. No mention of a Hugh Cholmondeley but doubtless he is related in some way. As you doubtless know the family is rather large. Gliddon's book only indexes the family seats and not the titles or surnames. If you know of any other Cholmondeley home locations or houses I can check for you. Sadly the Hampshire house mentioned in your other thread does not get a mention. MG

Coldstreamer Posted 30 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2015 Thanks all - gives me some more to go on. His family seem to move house a lot, or just owned a lot and that's where they happened to be at census time

Guest Posted 30 March , 2015 Share Posted 30 March , 2015 The novelist Mary Cholmondeley lived at Tolmers.. They were the part of the family that went into the church, I believe. Possibly directly related. MG
