Guest Pete Wood Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 As some of you know, I am trying to research all Commonwealth civilian casualties. I have realised that every civilian casualty should, as a result of enemy action, in theory, have resulted in a coroner's inquest. I am aware that a 75 year closed rule applies, for non relatives, but for WW1 records this time limit should not apply. Does anyone have experience of looking through these records?? Are the records listed by date?? I am hoping this is the case, as I have a few air raid casualties whose names are not known, but the date of death (and the approximate date of the inquest) is known. Is there a website which lists the coroner's records for each county.....??
Guest Pete Wood Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 Thank you, STILL Many of the names and details which I have do come from newspapers. But due to the Southend air raids, when a lot of casualties were listed, the government blocked reporting. So, for example, a newspaper report for the late war will just say "6 men, 3 women and 2 children were killed. At the coroner's inquest the jury asked for the Kaiser to be held responsible......" I'll have a trial run, using your suggested methods.
