andyspiller Posted 7 May , 2003 Share Posted 7 May , 2003 Resaerching my great uncle Pioneer 31684 Arthur Charles Harold Spiller. He was transfreed to the RE from 1st Bn Grenadier Guards in Aug 1916. A search at the PRO has proved fruitless except for his MIC that shows that PIP and Squeak were awarded by GG and Wilfred by the RE. An enquiry to the Labour Corps archive suggests that his number was allotted to 53 Company (ex 14 Infantry Labour Company) Lincolnshire Regt. Can anyone help with any further info on this subject? Many thanks in advance Andy
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 9 May , 2003 Share Posted 9 May , 2003 Andy, Campaign medals bore the number & regiment/corps that your great-uncle first went overseas with, in this case it looks like the Grenadier Guards. But his name would be recorded on the Medal Roll of the last unit he served with before the Armistice, in this case it looks like the Labour Corps. If you are seeking info on the movements of the 53rd Coy Labour Corps contact Ivor Lee off forum. Info on the 1st Bn Grenadier Guards is available on the main website.
