The Gallipolian

I have been fortunate to purchase a large number of these magazines, mainly the earlier editions and they make fascinating reading, although only quite small, A5 format Type script and and about 30 pages per issue. No glossy photographs, maps etc

However what they provide is a very personal insight into this organisation with many small personal accounts of various aspects of the Gallipoli operations by those who were there and that cannot be found anywhere else.

This association varies from the "Western front Association" in that certainly during the first 15-20 years it consisted very mainly of veterans who served in this theatre and the thought being that when they had all gone {the list of names in each publication indicates this was a quite a high rate !! the new members barely keeping up!} there would be no or very little interest and it would soon all be consigned to history and forgotten thank goodness how wrong can you be!

The yearly dinner was held at the Royal Air Force Club dinner jackets or dark suits, medals and NO female guests allowed, this bought raise eyebrows from my daughter !!

The dumb Blonde jokes, well boys will be boys!

I wonder if the tortise brought back from Gallipoli and still alive in the mid 70`s at Lowestoft is still going ??

I think these magazines can be viewed at the associations website?

Yes a valuable resource and well worthwhile. Always look forward to my copy turning up. Some terrific articles in editions old and new.
