Can any Gloucestershire Regiment expert tell me the names of the COs of the 2nd Battalion in 1915 and their dates in command? I ask because they come up twice in Haig's diary as being a scruffy and unalert lot and I wondered if COs were sacked as a result.

Lt Col G.S.Tulloh was CO 4/8/1914 until 9/5/1915 when he was KIA.

Lt Col F.C.Nisbet took over command until the 19/6/1915.

Temporarily replaced by Lt Col K.M.Davie until 21/11/1915. (Rose to Brg Gen in 1917)

Lt Col F.C.Nisbet then rejoined until the 16/4/1916 when he became CO of the 8th DCLI.

A bit hit and miss but as accurate as I can be at present, hope it helps.

(definitely no expert)

Many thanks for your very prompt reply. Haig made his comments before Tulloh [Tulloch?]'s death and so it is quite possible that he might have been sacked if he had not been KIA.

That's interesting Charles.

During this time he was MID by Sir John French for activities around Ypres during early 1915.
