The Medal Rolls are unhelpful. He went to France on 20 March 1915 as a Sapper and was discharged to Class Z as a CQMS on 22 July 1919 but there are no details of the unit(s) he served with.

His Mention in Dispatches is included in Murray's dispatch (here) from Egypt in October 1916 but it will, I think, be difficult to find out what he did unless a way can be found to identify his unit.

Mentions in despatches are not detailed. They are often for being an "all round good bloke" rather than for a specific act.

It's possible that the mention was, erm, mentioned in his unit war diary, which may give more information. But it's unlikely there's anything in the diary.
