Nick Thornicroft Posted 19 March , 2015 Share Posted 19 March , 2015 Does anyone know the christian names of this officer please? His medal index card only shows him as 'P.W.'. He was the C.O. of 10/Royal Warwickshire Regt. for a short time at the end of 1915 & into 1916, before being wounded. Many thanks.
Terry_Reeves Posted 19 March , 2015 Share Posted 19 March , 2015 Nick I think it is Percy Willoughby Parkinson. He has a file at TNA: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r/3?_q=parkinson%20AND%20WO%20339 TR
Nick Thornicroft Posted 19 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 19 March , 2015 Terry Many thanks for that. I had trawled through TNA officers' list but somehow missed him. It just shows you sometimes need another pair of eyes! Nick
HarryBrook Posted 20 March , 2015 Share Posted 20 March , 2015 This may be of interest - his death notice in The Times, Wednesday, April 15th 1942. His probate record states that he had a second Christian name, Wilders - Percy Willoughby Wilders Parkinson.
Nick Thornicroft Posted 20 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 20 March , 2015 Harry Many thanks for posting that. One of the reasons for finding out his christian names was to establish when he died, which you have very kindly done! Nick
HarryBrook Posted 20 March , 2015 Share Posted 20 March , 2015 From 10th Bn. Royal Warwickshire war diary:- Major Parkinson from 8th Glouc. Regt. took over command from Lt.-Col. Blyth on Wednesday, December 15 1915 whilst the Bn. was at Richbourg St. Vaast. Lt.-Col. Parkinson was wounded in the neck on Wednesday, January 19 1916 whilst the Bn. was at Neuve Chapelle. Major Taylor then took command until he handed over to Major Heath, D.S.O., of the Middlesex Regt. on February 12 1916.
