Maricourt Posted 13 March , 2015 Share Posted 13 March , 2015 Dear Forum Pals, In one of those moments of synchronicity I read today a poem by Lt Robert Sterling that was titled: To J H S M., Killed in Action, March 13th, 1915 I cannot help wonder who this is? Sterling himself was KIA only a few weeks later on the 23rd April, 1915 and his brother, 2/Lt John Lockhart Sterling was also KIA at Loos on the 28th September, 1915. Any information on the above welcomed. Maricourt
headgardener Posted 13 March , 2015 Share Posted 13 March , 2015 Probably John Hewitt Sutton MOXLY. His date of death is a day out according to CWGC, but he's the only likely candidate from what I can see.

Maricourt Posted 14 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 14 March , 2015 Thank you so much Headgardener for not only solving the mystery of the initials and for the information on John Moxly and Robert Sterling but also for pointing me to am extremely interesting WW1 site for Pembroke College, Oxford - I have already downloaded the Charles Nye letters that tell a very interesting story about his time at Gallipoli. Much appreciated ... Maricourt
