Remembered Today:

Turco Farm & Fauquissart

Dear all

I am going to Turco Farm (Boesinghe - Ypres) Fauquissart (Fleurbaix) and Thiepval next week in the footsteps of the 1/5 West Yorkshires. I want to get a feel for the lie of the land and take some photographs from the trench lines. Any advice / tips gratefully received!

Thanks

I find a good place to view the Turco Farm area is from No Man's Cot Cemetery.

Enjoy your trip.

I (living in Boezinge) once had a serious conflict with the farmer because I had published a beautiful photo of his beautiful farm. So, be careful if ever that is your intention ! :)

Thanks to you both. I will try not to annoy any farmers! No Mans Cot Cemetery looks ideal for a view and some photos. I assume that all the land around is private? I wanted to get to the Pump Room too (named after the well in Harrogate) but I suspect this will be impossible as it is on Turco Farm land, and I doubt the farmer will agree.

Do you know if I can get close to Chateau Les Trois Tours (Kast Drie Torens) near Brielen, for a

photo?

Thanks again for any help

Hi all !

Fauquissart is not at Fleurbaix but at laventie, along "la rue du bois"...

Cheers

Thanks Michel and Tonyoz.

The trip was fantastic. Really got a feel for the country at Turco Farm, Fauquissart and Thirpval Wood. Will post some photos.

The aerial photo is great too. I am trying to reconcile it to a sketch I saw at the Yorkshire Regiment Museum - do we know when it was taken, roughly?

PS the owner if Chateau Les Trois Tours was really helpful. He gave us a tour of the grounds and I got photos of the sentry / bombing bunkers at the corners of the Estate, as well as the bridge General Baldick was crossing when he was wounded by a shell.

Will pick some to post

I've no idea of the date HP, only the info given on flickr. I only found it today - the trench sections I'm looking for are a hundred yards or so west of the pictures :(

Hello

On the frontline's aerials you can see "rue de Tilleloy", it is the name of "rue du bois" at Laventie, leading from Richebourg to Fleurbaix.

These pictures are fantastic !

thank you for sharing

I agree. I have a British aerial photo from the other direction, but the ones you have posted are great. I took some photos of the area last week with one looking towards Neuve Chappelle, which I think is the area you are interested in Tonyoz?

You know what ?

Each autumn, I am hunting between"le Trivelet" and "Sugar Loaf" all along "la rivière des Layes"...

Hi HP,

Yes, the area Im looking for is just to the west of the flickr pics. My Grt Grt Uncle was, I'm certain, on the Rue de Carnin (D170) around the point where it turns South East to join the Rue Du Bois (D171). The 2nd Middlesex were here and he was initially buried at Cuthbert Farm Cemetery which was on Rue de Carnin.

Glad that the link has proved of interest to both you and Michel :)
