BIFFO Posted 12 March , 2015 Share Posted 12 March , 2015 I have heard of but never seen a photograph of the Hooge 1917 German bunker, this is NOT the bunkers that are in the hotel grounds, if you cross the Menin road BY the hotel there is a walk off to the right into the old sanctuary wood, which has craters and bunkers, when I research all I find is "the famous German 1917 bunker". I intend to take this walk and my camera. Biff
sajackr Posted 12 March , 2015 Share Posted 12 March , 2015 Biff, I took this walk last year and assuming I was at the correct bunker (followed directions from a pervious thread) there was nothing really to photograph so didn't bother. It appeared to be in a crater, collapsed and completely overgrown. Regards Sajackr
mebu Posted 12 March , 2015 Share Posted 12 March , 2015 Biffo, depends what you mean by "famous"? There are 4 German bunkers - or remains - in Sanctuary wood, all of which are virtually destroyed, and I'm not sure if any of them have an attached history which makes them particularly famous. If you do want to visit and photograph now is the ideal time, the undergrowth and bushes will be at their clearest. Let us know what you find, Peter
