Jon Miller Posted 10 March , 2015 Share Posted 10 March , 2015 I'm trying to find out where the 2nd Devons front line was in the last half of August 1915. The war diary doesn't seem to have much information, but I could well have missed something. The Regimental History tends to gloss over the period. They weren't far removed from where they'd been ever since the previous November. One casualty for the 27th Aug is buried in the Rue Petillon Cem, so I know it was somewhere around there. Does anyone have information perhaps over and above the diary and history that could help pinpoint their positions with more accuracy? Any efforts made to help are much appreciated. Jon. clk Posted 10 March , 2015 Share Posted 10 March , 2015 Hi Jon, Have you got a copy of the Brigade HQ war diary? It may well add some detail, and at the same time provide a more strategic overview. I think that they were part of 23rd Brigade. Headlines of the content can be seen at http://www.nmarchive.com/war-diary-result/1708-1267/page/2/ As a one off though, it would be cheaper to download a copy from the National Archive. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14053379 Regards Chris
Jon Miller Posted 11 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 11 March , 2015 Thank you Chris. I tend to forget about the Brigade diaries - I think that could be the way to go in this instance.
