War souvenirs - 1/4th Lincolnshires

Recommended Posts

Here are some souvenirs (mainly tickets and trinkets) from France and Egypt that my grandfather Private Alfred Finch No.1000 brought back from the war (served in 1/4th Lincolnshires 1911-1916). Though he never spoke of the war to any family members as far as we know, these items were found many years later among his possessions (as well as photos) - which he must have brought with him when he immigrated to NZ in the 1920s.

What is the significance of the two posies - looks like they may have been violets?

Very touching, the message on the left - 'When do you think the war will be finished? I am glad to meet British troops.", etc. Evidently written by a local. Thanks for sharing!
