Remembered Today:

Which Hospital Ship did he sail on?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a list of Hospital Ships that sailed from France January 18 1918. There probably was a few that did!! And would there be a list of injured who sailed on them at the time?

Just trying to find out which one my Grandfather was invalided back to England on.

Another Long Shot :-)

Regards

Paul

Sometimes the name is shown on a casualty sheet in his service records. if they exist.

If you know the hospital he left from you may be able to narrow it down to a particular French port.

Thanks Johnboy,

Unfortuntely no service record exists, only got his evacuation date from the Battalion diaries, so don't know much more than that. Just having a stab in the dark.

There is a representative sample of an Admission and Discharge Register for one Hospital Ship ASSAYE at the National Archives. File MH106/1929 covers Other Ranks shipped home during the period Jul 1917 to Mar 1918. No record where it voyaged but it's at least somewhere which might help,in the absence of other papers. Some of these rep samples of various units are now being digitised by forces-war-records and you might be able to search on his name for a fee.
