Military Cross Citation

Does anyone have the citation for the award of the Military Cross to 2nd Lt. ACT Perkins in September 1917?

I had no luck with the London Gazette (although I struggle with its search engine); would the citation be included on his medal card?.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Pete

I can't insert a link as I am using a tablet but it is in LG supplement 30561 page 2929 dated 5 March 1918 - search for "Alan Christopher Temple Perkins" and you should find it.

From the TNA records in WO 389:

2nd Lt Alan Christopher Perkins
RGA Spec Res att RFC

Gazetted 18.10.17

Decorated 11.5.18

Citation 7.3.18

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Te machine in which he ws an observer came into collision with another when he was at a height of 4000 feet and had its right hand bottom plkane so badly damaged that it got into a spinning nose dive. Seeing this he immediately climbed to the outer bay of thre left hand plane and by his weight tere enabled his pilot to right the machine and to land without further damage.

Near Ploegsteert Wood 14.9.17

Regarding the medal card; you might see a small "M.C." somewhere. I have a M.M. on one of mine, in the surname section. It should be apparent in the "Role" column.

Thank you all for your feedback; when I get the chance I will practice my LG searches (although I did limit my original search to 1917 so that is probably why I didn't find the citation!).

The citation shows the courage of ACT Perkins in ensuring his aircraft got down safely.

Regards (and thanks again)

Two points=what was his squadron?

and this is not really a feat "in action".lts brave but its not in the face of the enemy is it?

In 1918 this would've been a AFC medal , or am l being too critical?

In answer to your specific question .... the flight, with 35 Squadron, is described as "Fighting Duty" but I am not sure if this term had a specific meaning.

I can't comment on whether you are being too critical ... I would deem climbing out of an aircraft to assist with landing after a collision with another aircraft to be courageous at any time .... bearing in mind that acting in a soap or running round a race track qualifies you for a new years honour these days!!!!.
