Guest darrenfranklin20 Posted 24 February , 2015 Share Posted 24 February , 2015 I have tracked my relative William Franklin's war grave, but after searching have assumed his service record was one of those destroyed. Is there anyway from the battalion number or his service number: 6/158 of being able to work out when he enlisted or was sent to France?
ralphjd Posted 24 February , 2015 Share Posted 24 February , 2015 Welcome to the Forum. No date on his medal index card therefore not sent to a theatre of war before the 1st January 1916, if this helps a little. Ralph.

stiletto_33853 Posted 24 February , 2015 Share Posted 24 February , 2015 Darren, His service number is a Special Reserve number, 6th battalion, which was based in the Thanet area of Kent, hence he would have been sent out to the 8th RB as a re-inforcement at some time. At work presently but on my hard drive here the nearest batch of numbers to him I can find all enlisted as Special Reservists in early to late August 1914. Guest darrenfranklin20 Posted 26 February , 2015 Share Posted 26 February , 2015 Thanks all of you for the feedback. Good point on the medal card not showing anything for 14/15 as I have seen for other relatives in the war. Thanks again.
