Guest bhowell48 Posted 15 February , 2015 Share Posted 15 February , 2015 Do we have an expert on the RDC in the forum? My grandfather William Thomas Howell(s) held a commission in the RDC as mentioned in his obituary . I have only that reference and the only photo I have he appears to be wearing some form of battle-dress. I have looked in all the usual places but nothing turns up. He was resident in Cardiff S.Wales at the time so possibly the Welch Regiment may be relevant. I believe the RDC did not go abroad but did they receive the normal BWM and VM? no MIC to be found. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 15 February , 2015 Share Posted 15 February , 2015 did they receive the normal BWM and VM? no MIC to be found. As they did not serve overseas men of the RDC were not entitled to any medals unless they qualified for them by prior service in a unit that did serve overseas. Find my Past lists three men from Cardiff in the RDC with the name William Thomas Howell and none with the name Howells. 44871 - 253rd Protection Company 85476 - 56th Brigade Company 55161 - Pattishall Unit Dave
Guest bhowell48 Posted 16 February , 2015 Share Posted 16 February , 2015 Dave , thanks for the info I've tracked him down now no commission though, Pte in the 23rd Protection Co. More investigating on that track I think but FMP has a full set (8) of his records. Bern
