muppet Posted 4 February , 2015 Share Posted 4 February , 2015 I recently sent off for a copy of my Gt Uncles will, he died in France Feb 1917. I knew what it contained (left all to his wife) as I had previously looked it up on Ancestrys probate records. I was surprised when I received it that it also contained 2 letters from his widow. One dated 21st September 1917 requesting the will to enable her to obtain probate, and another dated 1st October 1917 telling them she had received it and she was enclosing 1/6d for search fee. Was it normal to charge a search fee so soon after the death of a soldier killed in action? seems pretty heartless to me. Wen
