stevenbecker Posted 2 February , 2015 Share Posted 2 February , 2015 Mates, What do you have on the capture of this Turkish officer; On Feb. 28th 1915 he was made Governor and Commander of Hicaz. Galip Pasha defended Taif 3 1/2 months under extreme conditions and was taken POW on Sep. 22nd 1916. He was deported to Malta as war criminal by the British I believe he was captured by British lead Arabs forces possibly in Arabia. But still not sure can you give any details? Cheers S.B

stevenbecker Posted 4 February , 2015 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2015 Mate, Yes that was my question on the other site. But didn't answer it in the detail I was after. Arabs forces surrounded Mecca and captured it around June 1916, but the Turkish garrison was near by at Taif and held out until Sept when it was surrendered. Accounts I read mentioned the commander as Fakhreddin Pasha (Wavell) while others give Galip Pasha (Turkish accounts). The reply by Tosun gives that he surrendered to British rather then Arab forces? And they (the Arab forces) used Artillery on the turks when I understand they had no guns? Cheers S.B
trajan Posted 4 February , 2015 Share Posted 4 February , 2015 I hve not been able to find anything about Galip Pasha here in English on the obvious web-sites, but for the campaign see: http://www.turkeyswar.com/campaigns/arabia.html, and for Fahreddin Pasha, commander of the “Hejaz Expeditionary Force”, see: http://www.turkeyswar.com/whoswho/who-fahreddin.html
stevenbecker Posted 4 February , 2015 Author Share Posted 4 February , 2015 Mate, Yes its the old mistake between Turkish and English spelling with "d" and "T" commander as Fakhreddin Pasha is also known as Fahrettin (Türkkan) or Fahreddin Pasha commander of the Hejaz Expeditionary Force. Still to confirm with Turkish sourses about Galip Pasa and his capture in Sept 1916? Cheers S.B
