robmcn Posted 6 November , 2004 Share Posted 6 November , 2004 Hi I believe i have found my grandfather's medal card in the national archives and all the info seems straight forward except in the remarks column there appears to be the letter Z followed by the date 20.3.19 could this be the date he was dicharged from the Army ? I have attached a copy of this section of the card. Cheers Rob McN Remarks.doc
Blackblue Posted 6 November , 2004 Share Posted 6 November , 2004 Rob, It essentially means he was discharged but like many ment to the Class Z Reserve. The Class Z Reserve was authorised by an Army Order of 3rd December 1918. There were fears that Germany would not accept the terms of any peace treaty, and therefore the Government decided it would be wise to be able to quickly recall trained men in the eventuality of the resumption of hostilities. The Z Reserve was abolished on 31st March 1920. (I cannabalized this from another post by Terry Reeves). Rgds Tim
