healdav Posted 30 January , 2015 Share Posted 30 January , 2015 I am reading some of Mahan's writings on naval strategy. He is described everywhere as a 'bear admiral'. What on earth is one of those?
Gareth Davies Posted 30 January , 2015 Share Posted 30 January , 2015 A misspelling of Rear Admiral? Or a misreading by optical scanning software that confuses Rear with Bear?
Scalyback Posted 31 January , 2015 Share Posted 31 January , 2015 I could do the joke about friendly bears on military radio nets..................... Concur With Mr D. Optical reading software does tend to read some words as others. Recently there was a flaw found with the software changing some words to dirty words!
