German army web sites?

Does anyone know of any websites dealing with the German Army in anything approaching the same detail and depth which Chris has done with the British? I've googled it, but haven't come up with much so far.

What I'm specifically trying to find out, if anyone knows anything, is the identity of any German large calibre howitzer units during the Battle of Cambrai (I'm trying to find out who killed my great-uncle!).

There is no site or sites with the detail you are looking for regarding the German units, especially the artillery. I did check one source and the following list shows which units were with Army Groups.

Gruppe Lewarde: 3 and 4/Landwehr 34 (10cm), 1 and 2/Landwehr 65 (12cm), 3, 4, 5 and 6/Landwehr 65 (15 and 17cm) 1,2 and 4/Bavarian 1 (heavy field howitzer batteries), 1 and 2/Landwehr 34; 11/18; 5 and 6/Saxon 12 (Mortar batteries).

Gruppe Arras: 3/Bavarian Reserve 6; 1/58 (10cm), 6/8; 5;60; 3rd Marine (12cm), 2 and 3/58; 1, 2 and 3/36; 1 and 2/Bavarian Reserve 6; 5, 6 and 7/Reserve 16; 10/1 Garde (Heavy field howitzer Batteries), 10/Saxon 12; 7, 8 and 9/12; 3 and 4/60 (Mortar Batteries).

Gruppe Caudry: 8/Reserve 3, 3/Bavarian 5; 1,3 and 4/2; 6 and 10/Reserve 20; 3/101; 3/63 (10cm), 3/74; 10th and 13th marine (15 and 17cm), 5 and 6/Reserve 3; 1 and 2/Bavarian 5; 5/Reserve 20; 1 and 2/101; 1 and 2/63; 3 and 4/Reserve 4 (Heavy field howitzer battery), 5/18; 1 and 2/Bavarian 20 (Mortar batteries).

Gruppe Busigny: 8/Bavarian Reserve 1; 8/Bavarian 2; 3/50 (10cm), 1 and 2/50; 5, 6 and 7/Reserve 19; 5 and 6/Bavarian Reserve 1; 1/Bavarian Reserve 3; 5, 6 and 7/11; 2, 3 and 4/3 (Heavy Field Howitzer batteries), 1, 3 and 9/Reserve 7; 7, 8 and 9/Reserve 12 (Mortar Batteries).

You have quite a few units to choose from it seems. Just where was he killed? This will help to reduce the possible batteries depending upon the Army Group area.

Thanks for the info, Ralph. He was killed at Nine Wood, just north of Marcoing, on 3rd December 1917.

Group Busigny is your best bet then, the 30th and 107th Divisions fought in this area on 3 December.
