Guest alum Posted 22 January , 2015 Share Posted 22 January , 2015 Can anyone help me please with access to war diaries (private or battalion) for soldiers/units that took part in the Battle of Baku in Aug-Sept 1918? I know there are a number of published accounts (Dunsterville, Warden, Rawlinson) but they are all from an officer's perspective (and are occasionally contradictory). I do not have their War Diaries, however, there is information and some photographs relating to the British troops in Baku on the ' WW1 Military Motors ' Thread currently running on this Forum. Here is the link :- http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173218&page=87 Regards, LF
MaureenE Posted 23 January , 2015 Share Posted 23 January , 2015 The FIBIS Fibiwiki page Norperforce has some information about Dunsterforce, including some links to online books, although probably by officers http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Norperforce Cheers Maureen
Admin kenf48 Posted 23 January , 2015 Admin Share Posted 23 January , 2015 The Battalion war diaries (which by definition are written by officers) of the British Army units involved, and 39 Infantry Brigade are in WO95/4955, none have been digitised. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_srt=1&_ep=WO+95/4955&_dss=range&_ro=any&_hb=tna Although they may be the document of record the 'spin' on the war diaries has been discussed often on the forum. I don't know of any accounts by enlisted men. Here is an account of the Battle originally published in Military History http://www.historynet.com/world-war-i-battle-for-baku.htm (the comments are, er, interesting!)
