Corporal Alfred Charles BATT, RAMC

Evening all,

Bit of a rookie question I'm sure but haven't researched in the RAMC area before - Cpl Batt went to France 11/8/15, can I tell anything at all from his number - 58052 - as to when he enlisted, what unit he may have been attached to, etc? Already have info from census returns etc on his pre-war life but am trying to find out more about his time in the RAMC if I can.

Many thanks

Bob

I'm not a numbering expert but looking at similar numbers in the Silver War Badge records I think you're looking at April 1915 enlistment:

58026 24.04.15

58042 26.04.15

58055 27.04.15

But no units mentioned there..

His Medal Index Card on ancestry.co.uk states

Theatre of War first served in: France

Date of entry therein: 11.8.15

His entry in the Service Medal & Award Rolls (Br War & Victory Medal), on ancestry.co.uk, appears to state: "Rev. to Pte. on ceasing to perf. duties of appm't, 2/6/17" and "Issue authd 13/5/22"

Can another forum member check this out ?

Revert to Private? As he was an Acting Corporal.. His Medal Index Card has the amendment "correct rank A/Cpl".

"Issue.." refers to the issuing of medals (usually but not in this case on the Medal Index Card).
