crodgers Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 Just came across this and thought it would be of interest. The quality of the maps are excellent The National Library of Scotland has digitized and uploaded more than 130 World War I maps of British and German trenches across France and Belgium [maps.nls.uk/wwl ], showing gun emplacements, wire entanglements and observation posts. Users can overlay the maps with Google and Bing satellite imagery

towisuk Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 There are numerous references and links to this map Library going back many months, but I guess it doesn't do any harm to flag it up again to new members who may not have read the threads that gave the link and information when the NLS first put them on-line.... regards Tom
flers1916 Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 Brillant, thank you very much crodgers and andy. I was one who missed the earlier references so I am grateful to you both.
andy2014 Posted 16 January , 2015 Share Posted 16 January , 2015 I am new here so missed this before, also same maps on this canadian website, just without the google maps overlay. http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww1/ndx5to40.htm Advantage with this one is you can download and save the maps high quality, 1gb and print them yourself or save them, plus top quality when zooming in! And a great Trench name search at the top! Andy

Tom Lang Posted 17 January , 2015 Share Posted 17 January , 2015 May I also point out another great resource in Edinburgh is The National Collection of Aerial Photography. They have a wonderful display of all kinds of aerial photos. Have a search for what tickles your fancy. Use the 'Navigation Map' to find photos from that location. http://ncap.org.uk/browse Tom.
