Bob Mitchell Posted 1 August , 2005 Share Posted 1 August , 2005 I`d like to know what the public reaction was to Haig after the war. I know what the veterans thought - I`ve spoken to enough of them - but I don`t recall seeing much in books or newspapers that was critical enough to suggest he was despised. There's a decent essay by Dan Todman called Sans Peur Et Sans Reproche, dealing with this very subject. I believe it can be found in The journal of military history #89. Adrian Gregory's book The silence of memory also dealt with this if I remember correctly. From what I've read it would appear, that on the contrary to being despised he was in fact much lauded. Whether this was for the war or for his support of veterans is a sub-argument in itself.
