rarpos Posted 11 January , 2015 Share Posted 11 January , 2015 Friends, I need some help in looking up the service of a specific soldier who served in the British Army. I am good at looking up Australian personnel, but am unsure how to check on non Australians. The soldier is: Lieut. Claude Keith Macdonald 93rd Regiment Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders KIA France. September 1915. I believe that he was Australian born, or connected. I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks,
Drew-1918 Posted 11 January , 2015 Share Posted 11 January , 2015 Hello there, The 1911 Census has him as an Oxford Student, born in what I think reads "Daventry, Northants" (UK). His mother, Alice Blanche, is listed as being born in Melbourne, Australia, so that's probably the link. His younger brother, J or T Falconer, and his younger sister Queenie, were also born in Melbourne, so I would say the family must lived there for at least a little while. SDGW has him as 10th Battalion. Hope that helps, Chris

sotonmate Posted 13 January , 2015 Share Posted 13 January , 2015 Service file at the National Archives, but not digital: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C714002 Need to hope that it hasn't been "Weeded" (a 1930s pastime in the WO) too severely.
