Terry_Reeves Posted 7 January , 2015 Share Posted 7 January , 2015 The National Farmers Union have made this very interesting contribution to the WW1 commemorations: http://www.nfuonline.com/the-few-that-fed-the-many-ww1-report/ It also includes some video interviews with the families of farmers. stevem49 Posted 7 January , 2015 Share Posted 7 January , 2015 Thanks for the link Terry. My Gt Grandfather farmed in the Peak District during the period and luckily for me, Grandfather was too young to serve but he said it was worse than 'hard labour' being on the farm. His elder brother served as did a large amount of the farm staff, which I suppose added to the young lads work load. Really interesting to read about it in the NFU piece. John_Hartley Posted 7 January , 2015 Share Posted 7 January , 2015 In my forthcoming book, I'm including a reasonable chunk about the Womens Land Army. Managed to come across a couple of very good diaries at IWM/Liddle.
