b3rn Posted 4 January , 2015 Share Posted 4 January , 2015 Click-bait 1914-style http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/95312815 plus some jolly japes, a couple of my favourites below: There is reported to be an uneasy feeling among the poor in our big towns that, if hard times should come, an attempt will be made to foist on them many of the weirder garments which kind-hearted ladies have been making for the troops. A regrettable mistake is reported from South London. A thoroughly patriotic man was set upon by a Cockney crowd for declaring that the Kaiser was a Nero. Pompey Posted 4 January , 2015 Share Posted 4 January , 2015 My favourite is: How implicitly Belgium trusted that guarantee of neutrality is shown by the fact - that she always maintained a supply of impregnable fortresses on her' frontiers. It is a shame that these impregnable fortresses did not work as intended, unless that intention was just to slow the German advance.
