hodgson64 Posted 31 December , 2014 Share Posted 31 December , 2014 Can anyone help with the movements of 10 KOYLI around 9th April 1917? I'm researching Lance Corporal Joseph Warhurst who died that day, age 32. Service Number 12/1588 buried at COJEUL BRITISH CEMETERY, ST. MARTIN-SUR-COJEUL. Husband of Edith Warhurst, of 19, Leeds Rd., Dewsbury. Thanks! Best wishes for 2015
Colin W Taylor Posted 31 December , 2014 Share Posted 31 December , 2014 Peter The 64th Brigade, of which 10th KOYLI were part, were attacking a section of the Hindenburg Line on Henin Hill; SE of Arras. This was part of the 1st Day of the Battle of Arras. 10th KOYLI provided working parties in support of the attacking battalions and late in the day the battalion moved up to the captured positions on the top of the hill and helped hold them. The brigade was pushed out of these trenches on the 10th after an enemy counter attack. During these two days Pte Waller earned a posthumous VC in holding a trench barricade against German bombing attacks. The war diary has a little more detail; probably worth downloading from the National Archives for £3.50. Kind regards Colin
