L/8971 Sgt. Edgar Milton, 2nd Royal Sussex

Brighton born Edgar, a town labourer, joined the county regiment in 1908 aged 18 and by the outbreak of war this tall soldier (5'10") was the Bn Provost Cpl. He was promoted to Lance Sgt. on the Aisne and Sgt during 1st Ypres. Edgar was shot and killed by a sniper on 28th December, in the flooded trenches between Givenchy and La Bassée canal.
