mickgall Posted 3 November , 2004 Share Posted 3 November , 2004 Hi All I'm a bit confused with my gt uncles medal card. On it he was awarded the 1914 star, but he deserted 22/1/1916 so it was forfited (it also says still a deserter) but in the top right corner there appears to be a stamp showing he was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal. Is this correct and if it is, does it mean he re-enlisted or was caught at some point. Any help greatly appreciated. Mick Gall
Tom Tulloch-Marshall Posted 4 November , 2004 Share Posted 4 November , 2004 Mick - the medal roll references on the index card are simply that, - references to his name appearing on the medal roll(s). That does not mean that the medals were actually issued, and if you look at the rolls themselves you should normally expect to see a repetition of the "medals forfeited" note. The fact that the card shows him as "still" a deserter means that that was his status post war. regards - Tom
