Great portrait. The writing looks just as bad as the card I posted above.

A short summary: Johannes "Hans" Cunze - who is shown on the picture in the trench, as the front page says - writes to his relatives (uncle, aunt, cousins) and thanks them for their recent letter with pictures. He makes them believe that everything is allright: no action ("alles ruhig": all quiet), nice weather ("Kaiserwetter": Kaiser's weather is still used as a word for blue skies) and the defense line is good ("fest und stark stehen unsere Mauern": firm and strong are our walls).

I try to translate it word by word but I can't guarantee that I can read all of it.

Simply superb series of training shots so many thanks for posting. I especially like the bayonet fencing one!

I'll second that.

The bayonet training, two tiered rifle range, and rifle ladder shots were stand outs.
