Remembered Today:

Wreath laying

Roger Thompson

Recommended Posts

At the annual Boxing Day Batley v Dewsbury match a wreath is being laid on the centre spot in commemoration of the 16 players from both clubs who paid the supreme sacrifice.

After that then its back to the usual warfare.

I think its a smashing gesture from both clubs.

Roger.

ps I was not sure which section to put it in.

This was duly done with all the respect that required, unfortunately I did not have my camera with me.

Hi Roger,

Is that across all conflicts, 16 seems a very high number ?

PS Who won ?

Steve.....we finished on the winning side, whilst the Germans didn't.

Bear the above in mind when reading the rest of the Forum....it may explain a few things.

It is just the sort of gesture that one would expect in REAL rugby.

Sorry chaps I should have said WW1.

Batley won 18-16, a very good work out for both sides, it was like the Christmas truce normally Batley and Dewsbury supporters don't mix, but they did on Boxing Day.

You are correct Bruce.

Cheers Roger.
