BarnsleyHistorian Posted 23 December , 2014 Share Posted 23 December , 2014 The 1918 Absent Voters List for Central Barnsley and some surrounding areas can be seen at Barnsley Archives, which is now in Barnsley Town Hall, part of Experience Barnsley, our new museum. It lists by Ward and Polling District the men who were away from home in 1918. Service number, Rank, Battalion, Regiment or Ship are given for each man. I have even found a nurse, which given the stringent conditions for women in 1918 must be quite unusual. http://barnsleyhistorian.blogspot.com/2014/12/finding-nurse-in-absent-voters-list-for.html The Barnsley War Memorials Project have photographed the book and are gradually transcribing the names. For more information see this page on our website. It is going to be a long job! http://www.barnsleywarmemorials.org.uk/p/absent-voters.html We have also extracted the absent voters, unfortunately without the additional service information from the areas of the Hemsworth Parliamentary Division which now fall in the Barnsley MBC area. There is a link on the page above to this information. Thanks, and Happy Christmas, Linda
