Hi all,

Does any of you have more information about the Private John Alex McMaster who served with the Royal Irish Rifles:

15 Battalion 03.10.1915-17.02.1916

14 Battalion 04.08.1916-05.09.1916

15 Battalion 06.09.1916-21.09.1916

Then he was transferred into 252 P.Co. Royal Defence Corps. Was this area based?

Any help with him would be great.

Kind Regards,

Timo aka Noor

There is a topic from earlier years at showtopic=119721.

Yes,they were regional,252 Protection Company was in Southern Command.

Did you see that your man was discharged due to wounds to SWB ? Enlist 10.9.1914,discharge 2.9.1918.

Thank you sotonmate! Yes, I downloaded SWB page as well but didn't paid much attention on that. So, I presume these must be previous wounds when he served with the rifles? Protection Company wasn't involved in action? I first thought that PC can be as well Provost Company :).

Thanks again and Marry Christmas!

Yes,in action with RIRifles, the RDC was only at home, and on Guard duties. Here a situation similar to men who went from front line to Labour Corps because of sickness or wounds and weren't A1 fit any more.

Thanks again! Now, I can see that he must be wounded Autumn 1916. He is listed in the Irish Times 20 October 1916 as wounded. So, two years extra service in home and then discharged due to the wounds.
