have searched high and low for the meaning of this abbraviation, can anyone help please?

In the war diary of the 2nd Royal West Surrey there is an entry."Canteen replenished from Signal School canteen, No E.F.G in the area"

Have not even been able to make a guess.

cheers Ed

Might it be E F C? Expeditionary Forces Canteen, a voluntary organisation, one of the fore-runners of the NAAFI.

I agree with Paul. It fits the context, too.

Many thanks gentlemen both. My copy at the TNA was not all that good. But as you say it fits. I must now confess that I had not come across the EFC previously. Will have to buy some more books, don't have much faith in Google :-)

Cheers. Ed
