The 1/4th Bn which he'd have served with (the only Bn of the KSLI who's movements match the locations he served) was a Territorial Bn, the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Bn's were the Service Bn's of the KSLI.

There is an image shown in the above links of the front page of the diary, from where I copied the details, which says
