I bought a 1915 Trio to

7930 Pte William C Baden HLI

His MIC says he was later AOC No. T/1324

his rank is given as

AMT/S/Sjt I know AMT refers to ammunition or similar S/Sjt is obviously Staff/Sjt

My query is what did an AMT. Staff Sergeant do any AOC experts enlighten me

please.

All the best

Alun

Not an AOC expert but I think this is Armament Staff Sergeant as in this LLT link (scroll down to AOC) and here from the boltonrevisited website:

BARFORD, Armament Staff Sergeant John William *

No.T/442 Royal Army Ordnance Corps attached “Y” Battery, 15th Brigade, R.H.A.

Staff Sergeant Barford was born in West

Ham, Essex, and enlisted Woolwich, Kent.

Killed in action on May 10, 1915. Buried Pink Farm Cemetery, Helles.

On May 10, 1915, Staff Sergeant James Hall of “Y” Battery noted in his diary:

Lost my best friend, Sergeant Barford, who was killed just as we were talking together about a job

we had just completed on one of the guns.

Suggest Armament Staff Sergeants looked after field guns and Armourer Staff Sergeants smaller arms..

Thanks for the reply Mike. Your answer looks to be a very good solution.

The link is also very good and as you say does make a distinction between

Armament and armourer quite clear.

As his MIC clearly says AMT I think it is almost certainly Armament.

Wonder how he went from the HLI to the AOC? That's another question, probably never know the answer unfortunately.

Regards

Alun
