Simon_Fielding Posted 30 November , 2014 Share Posted 30 November , 2014 Do you think the Bn in India has listed in the 1911 census a man actually on leave in the UK? http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1911England&h=39038354&indiv=try&o_vc=Record:OtherRecord&rhSource=2352 http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1911England&h=53572390&indiv=try&o_vc=Record:OtherRecord&rhSource=8913 as I'm sure this is he:
Langdon Posted 30 November , 2014 Share Posted 30 November , 2014 Yes because he is listed as absent on the Indian census. The list was probably compiled a while before... Mike

Langdon Posted 30 November , 2014 Share Posted 30 November , 2014 I imagine there were cases of servicemen erroneously recorded in two (home & away) places on 2nd April 1911 but there's the reverse of the coin - apparently if you were on shore leave you weren't recorded as absent on a ship's census. Of course, the question: "Where were you?" would have to wait a hundred years...!
