mrfrank Posted 22 November , 2014 Share Posted 22 November , 2014 Just purchased this Gale and Polden photograph of the Signallers of the 8th Devons taken just before their departure for France in July 1915. I've identified the officer from the regimental history as 2nd Lt John Paul Ridgway Bridson who was killed in action at Loos on the 25th Sept aged 18. Would anyone happen to know any further names of the Battalion signallers on their departure for France? Mike
sotonmate Posted 22 November , 2014 Share Posted 22 November , 2014 Mike All you can hope for is that the War Diary has some info about the signallers as I don't recall seeing any specific info on such as the MICs. It is possible that a service record may have an entry for a signaller's course but without names you could be chasing your tail ! http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352412
Scalyback Posted 22 November , 2014 Share Posted 22 November , 2014 A very good photo of the equipment used at the time. I'm rather taken with this photo, the dog is great! Sorry can't help over any names but given all have the flags on the left arm, when you do find a service record the signals course will be on there for these chaps.
