Derek Black Posted 10 November , 2014 Share Posted 10 November , 2014 The 1st Battalion Black Watch are listed in the 1911 Irish census. Kindly pointed out by a chap on the Black Watch forum. Black Watch Census 1911 Limerick Barrack Hillhttp://www.census.nationalarchives.i.../Barrack_Hill/19.40 to 19.50 lists members of the Black Watch and some other support staff. Derek. Airshipped Posted 10 November , 2014 Share Posted 10 November , 2014 Interesting to see the hospital returns for what afflicted soldiers in peacetime. I'd expected to see a few accidents re weaponry, fractures etc but the majority appear to be diseased (quite a few STDs at that). Very interesting to see just how high a percentage of the Black Watch personnel were Scottish-born. (I'd have expected to see the occasional English-born officer, but it is a small sample size and unrepresentative given that the census returns cover military hospital, some officers' quarters and certain support staff lodgings). Thanks for sharing this.
